When the storylines are, to a degree, guessable as an avid horror fan, it doesn't surprise me when the stories go the way they do. With the idea of mental instability, you can kind of guess which direction this story heads.Īgain, the artwork. ![]() breaks a curse on a tomb, similar to the theories of many Egyptian tombs, and the curse is passed onto his daughters. ![]() I believed the game may have taken inspiration from this one-shot, but quickly found this is not the case, although vaguely similar.Īs with many other Ito stories, it comes down to the artwork within this story, for me. Layers of Fear is another simple, not as short (forty-ish pages) one-shot by guro author Junji Ito and made it onto my reading list tonight simply for being a one-shot.Īt first, I was attracted to this after recognising the name from the 2016, psychological horror game of the same name (it's an amazing game, I recommend watching a gameplay of it). ![]()

Long story short, Soames Forsyte is married to the beautiful but aloof Irene. The three novels are The Man of Property, In Chancery, To Let. ![]() But before I begin summarizing-or attempting to summarize-I should probably mention this is three novels published as an omnibus. ![]() Though chiefly-in all honesty-it really only covers two. It spans three or so generations, give or take. Premise/plot: This classic novel chronicles the adventures (and misadventures) of the Forsyte family. I don't *think* they are the kind of spoilers that would keep you from reading this one on your own if you want. This review will have varying degrees of spoilers throughout. It made me curious to read the book.at some point.though I bought a physical copy of the book around that time. I saw bits and pieces (at least) of the 2002/2003 adaptation. įirst sentence: Those privileged to be present at a family festival of theįorsytes have seen that charming and instructive sight-an upperįirst impressions: I have had The Forsyte Saga on my to-read list for almost twenty years. ![]() ![]() ![]() We also get more insight into the history between Nesta and Feyre and the complexities of their relationship and how fractured their family had become. It incorporates exercise, mindfulness, purpose and friendship to show Nesta and her new friends’ healing journeys. ![]() This is a book about overcoming the self-loathing that comes with trauma, and it does not let the reader forget Nesta’s experiences. Nesta’s relationship with the House of Wind is unique and heart-warming, and the friendships she developed with some of the other characters had me in tears at times (both happy and sad). ![]() She is far from perfect, but a completely engaging character with so much depth. ![]() It was going to take a miracle to make me like her, but I felt her pain almost instantly and was completely drawn into her story. She must live with Cassian in the House of Wind until she heals.ĭon’t get me wrong, the romance in this book is great, but where it really shines is in Nesta’s journey. They decide to extract Nesta from her life of seedy taverns (and seedy males), giving her an ultimatum. We open the book in a similar place to the end of A Court of Frost and Starlight, with Nesta revelling in alcohol and sex, isolated from her sisters and their new Night Court family. Nesta Archeron is an absolute queen and I am officially a stan now.
